Outside: Insight
11th July- end of August
On the opening day of ‘Outside Insight’ 2010, us Knee-jerks operated a recording station in Brigid’s Garden. Members of the public were invited to imitate the calls of an assortment of exotic and fictitious animals. The outcome of the recordings can be heard around the gardens for the duration of the exhibition.
This project aims to highlight the idea of the garden as a human subversion of nature. Human hubris sees us attempt to be architects of the natural world so via knee-jerks playful imitation and exhibition scenario this work aims to establish a parody where the public bellows absurdly out of trees and bushes. Humans are the real mystery and anomalies hidden between the lines written by the ‘garden’.
Thanks to everyone who participated, it was a great opening! Listen out for us if you're visiting the garden before September!

Pass the Parcel Galway!
The event is part of our ongoing series of public events, called Happenings.
Members of the public are invited to meet in Eyre Square and join us in a game of pass the giant parcel. Much like the traditional pass the parcel game everyone will form a circle and pass the parcel until the music stops, with a surprise to be found at the end! We are looking for all members and all ages to join in.
Through Happenings, we as Knee-jerk wish to engage with members of the public in a fun and social way in order to broaden our creative vernacular.

A Collective Sigh of Relief
Erasers
At the end of the day a table was set up at the door where erasers and disposable cups of white emulsion and paint brushes were supplied. Each person partaking was given a white t-shirt with ERASER written front and back. They were then directed to literally erase all the mark making that occurred during the day. A mêlée of mock official 'ERASERS' rubbing and scrubbing ensued!
In this way we achieved a dramatic closure to the event in the Dadaist vein!
